BOOK ONE in THE OUTLIER TRILOGY
(Also BOOK EIGHT in THE SILVER SERIES)
2349 CE
In Mercia, only one law prevails lex talionis, the law of retaliation.
Upon crash landing in the English wilderness while en route to London, it doesn't take long for Ella 'Silver' Cross--accompanied by her husband, Alex, and best friend, Luka--to realize they've arrived in a country fragmented by civil unrest.
Caught up in the tit for tat politics between several warring militia factions and an ostracized group of people called the Deltas, the impromptu rescue of a London woman who's being held captive by an outlying branch of the Mercian militia proves to be anything but straightforward.
She's a wanted woman--in more ways than one--and this spontaneous act of human kindness is set to be the catalyst for great change in the lives of all concerned. It might even spell the end of Silver and Alex's marriage.

SILVER Lex Talionis is set against the backdrop of dystopian, neo-Victorian England, and has a lesbian romance at its core. It's the eighth book in The SILVER Series, and also the first book in The Outlier Trilogy.
The Outlier Trilogy is a self-contained trilogy within The SILVER Series, so it's not necessary to have read any of the first seven books (The Amaranthe Chronicles) before diving into this threesome.
Bonus character crossover! SILVER Lex Talionis also features Carmen Wild, a character from The Prisonworld Trilogy.

Knowing a book is the beginning of a trilogy puts a lot of pressure on the story and the characters. They have to draw the reader in and then hopefully have the reader thinking that they need the second book to see what happens. I had bought the The Magistrate and loved the main character Carmen. So combining her with another strong female protagonist in Silver Cross was too good to be true.the story was great and the romance between Silver and Ria was well written and definitely sensual. So well done Keira, I am happily awaiting the next installment!Product details

SILVER Lex Talionis The Outlier Trilogy Book 1 edition by Keira Michelle Telford Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Further adventures of Silver see her en-route to London amidst an alien land and culture - far different in some ways yet similar in others - where she must battle a new host of enemies. Alex and Luka are involved but...I don't give spoilers.
New and old characters again brought alive by this talented author and I am looking forward to reading the next instalment.
Excellent - but essential to have read the others in the Silver series.
3.5 stars
F/F and M/F futuristic/dystopian, neo-Victorian
* contains graphic M/F and F/F sex
This book is the first in The Outlier Trilogy... which is a 3-book standalone part of the Silver series. Silver is basically a badass warrior who was raised as a Hunter Division prodigy and has basically been a weapon in the fight against the Chimera (monsters). When her father (retired General of the Hunter Division) is killed during the British invasion of Amaranthe, Silver is warring on a whole new path... vengeance. She's also an unapologetic (sleazy) bisexual-- a married AND pregnant one here, no less.
Even though there is a F/F focus in this trilogy, Silver's soulmate is her husband and there is no doubt in my mind she will end up with him at the end of this series. So even though the F/F scenes are pretty hot and Silver does seem to enjoy women (at least sexually), the lesbians shouldn't expect her to run off into the sunset with a woman (for long). This series was ultimately created for the hets. I thought this trilogy would be one for the lesbians-- and it does lean that way... but it's still very bisexual in nature.
For the first third or more of this book, Silver is traveling with her husband (Alex) and best friend, Luka (who she's been teasing/screwing around with throughout the series)... and both men want her bad. The usual hackneyed dystopian love triangle. Graphic M/F stuff in the first half. Hang on, the book gets more F/F focused as it progresses. And in Book 2, Telford really/finally gets her gay on (though even that has M/F content). Book 2 is more my thing, but I'm glad I read this one just to get to know Silver and to see what was going on since I hadn't read any of the Silver series.
Eventually, a couple of lesbians do make an appearance in this story and they join Silver's crew on their journey. One is Carmen Wild from the Prisonworld series (this is set in the same 2349 time period where homosexuality is illegal). I wasn't a huge Carmen fan in The Prisonworld series, but I loved her cool demeanor in this one (and the fact that she can see right through Silver's slutty bi behavior) and wish she'd gotten a bigger focus. Silver and Carmen had very good buddy chemistry. It was one of the better connections in the book and Telford should run with that and give it a primary focus in Book 3, in my opinion.
Alex and Silver are well-defined characters in this trilogy. She's been in love with him since her teens (she's now mid 30's). I can see how a lot of readers would be rooting for them... that's the real love story here (even if her F/F dalliances are way hotter lol). Even though they fight a lot and there are issues keeping them apart, they are still drawn to each other and it's clear her turn into women is largely motivated by wanting to provoke him and make him jealous. I kinda hated this about her... it's a shame she can't honestly love a woman or be attracted to women without some hidden agenda or because her man isn't available to fulfill primal urges. Definitely have mixed feelings about this character.
There is some good writing and world-building ideas here. For the right audience, this is going to be appreciated even more. I'm way too lesbian to have a passion for this one and was hoping for a bigger focus on the F/F thread. Silver is a pretty cool character as far as her warrior side goes... wish she were a lesbian, but hell, at least the F/F porn here is juicy. If you're like me and checked in for the queer material, I'd recommend skipping the other part of the predominantly heterosexual Silver series as I found it quite awful... this standalone trilogy is far more F/F friendly and the only part of the series where her bisexuality is tolerable and even fun... if you can overlook the fact that the husband is always around. Plus, Telford's writing/storytelling has improved by leaps and bounds here.
I love this author's writing, hands down. She creates a viable setting and characters you get invested in very quickly. To really appreciate this trilogy, a reader should read the Silver series to really understand what's going on here. I did notice a handful of continuity issues between installments, but they don't interfere with the flow at all. She also writes great romance juxtaposed against a quickly moving plotline. Her sex scenes are tastefully written and appeals to a lot of people, both lesbian identified and straight. Enjoy this great read!
Knowing a book is the beginning of a trilogy puts a lot of pressure on the story and the characters.
